West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University is China's first specialist dental hospital and among the country's first Grade 3A stomatology hospitals, located at 14 Section 3, Renmin Nan Road in Chengdu. Its official profile identifies it as the state-deployed oral-disease treatment centre in western China, a national drug clinical-trial institution and the Sichuan provincial oral-healthcare quality-control centre (official site, checked 15 Oct 2026).
The institution began in 1907 as the Chengdu Renji Dental Clinic, expanded into a dental hospital in 1912, and in 1917 established China's first higher dental school at West China Union University; after several renamings it became the West China Hospital/School of Stomatology of Sichuan University in 2001.(derived context)
It holds the National Center for Stomatology — a National Medical Center designation — and hosts the National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases; these centre designations differ from its eight National Clinical Key Specialties, which cover all major clinical departments. Its stomatology discipline was rated A+ and ranked first in China in the Ministry of Education discipline assessment and is a 'double first-class' construction discipline.(derived context)
No dedicated foreign-patient or international medical department is advertised on the official website: the site lists a Special Needs Clinic and a newer high-tech-zone outpatient department said to run an international-standard diagnosis-and-treatment centre, but neither page explicitly offers services for foreign nationals. International patients should therefore obtain written confirmation of language support, interpreter arrangements and billing before travelling.(derived context)
On price transparency, the hospital website did not display a web tariff table in this check, but as a public Grade 3A institution it bills under Sichuan's uniform government medical-service price items, and the Sichuan Healthcare Security Administration publishes hospital-specific dental price information naming the hospital (for example a 2023 table covering conventional single dental-implant packages). Itemised bills are issued on site and an individualised written treatment estimate should be requested before complex work begins. Checked 15 Oct 2026.
Treatments this hospital is held for: Conservative dentistry and endodontics, periodontics, oral medicine, paediatric dentistry, orthodontics, prosthodontics, dental implants, oral and maxillofacial surgery, cleft lip and palate, oral emergency care.
